Dating Your Spouse: 6 Romantic Ideas You Can Do Without Breaking the Bank

Twelve years of being in a relationship, one year married, and we still love making date nights extra special. For us, it’s never a waste of time. It’s an investment, a lifetime commitment to nurture our love and keep it sweeter as the years go by.

One thing we noticed is that the longer the couple is married , the lesser they date their spouse. It’s often the reality to many couples and it makes us sad.

They say it’s getting awkward.

It’s not the priority anymore.

It would cost money.

The kids are making it hard to have date nights.

It’s only for the young ones.

If young, non-married couples date often, shouldn’t we married couples do it all the more?

Perhaps all we need is a change in perspective.

Yes, it can be hard to squeeze in dating your spouse between working, handling kids and  taking care of day-to-day responsibilities. But it will always be worth it. More than just a duty, it’s a privilege to have someone to date for the rest of our lives.

Dating your spouse doesn’t have to be expensive all the time.

Here are some ways you can pull off that special date without breaking the bank.

Romantic Dinner Date At Home

It can be in your balcony, garden, backyard, dining area or bedroom. Honestly, anywhere in your house can become a special dinner spot when you put in the effort to be creative and decorate a bit. Cook your spouse’s favorite food and bring out that wine to celebrate. Add candles to make it more romantic, turn on the music and set the mood.

Walk In The Park

You will never go wrong with a walk in the park. It’s romantic, it’s free plus being surrounded by nature is always a breath of fresh air – literally and figuratively. If you want to make it a little extra, you can bring food and set up a picnic in your favorite spot.

Go For A Run Together

Running helps clear your mind and relieve stress. If it does wonders to your body, how much more if you are doing it with your spouse, right? If you have been physically active, the running date should not be a time to train your speed or break your personal record. It should be an easy run with conversational pace. Hit two birds with one stone, keep your body and heart healthy with a run with your spouse.

Game Night Or Movie In Bed

Cinemas are great but a movie night in bed with your spouse is a level up. With Netflix and Youtube, you can enjoy quality movies or series in the comforts of your home. You can be cozy and clingy if you want to plus you can stay there for as long as you want. Don’t forget the popcorn or a cheese platter paired with wine.

Other fun options are charade nights, card games and even strategic games if you are both competitive.

Chase Sunsets Or Gaze The Stars

Sunsets, the moon and the stars will always be a romantic idea! Do you know a beautiful spot in your area where you can catch the sunset together? It can be on a beach, a mountain or just a few meters from your home. Invite your spouse, drive your way there before the golden hour and just watch the sun set right in front of you.

If you have a balcony or open backyard at home, you can also spend the night outside. Set up a mat, pillows and blanket, gaze at the stars and talk about anything under the moonlight.

Be With Your Spouse

More than any presents you can give, your presence will always matter the most. Being with your spouse, spending quality time with them and just being there physically 100% is the most romantic thing of them all. Talk about random things in life, different from your usual day-to-day conversations and work from home. Your words have  a great impact on your spouse. Be more loving in your words, be more kind and appreciative. Build each other up instead of tearing your relationship apart.

Marriage isn’t just about being housemates. It’s a partnership between husband and wife.

Keep in mind that the kind of partnership that you have will significantly influence the kind of family you will build in the near future.

Date your spouse often, live life to the fullest and keep the love alive.

Let all that you do be done with love.
