Modala Beach Resort Review: First Resort in the Philippines with Its Own Leisure Village

A beach resort with its own leisure village — what do you think that looks like? 🤔

Did you know that we already have one in the Philippines? … and it’s in Bohol!

Modala Beach Resort is the first ever resort in the Philippines that doesn’t just offer a relaxing resort ambiance but also a delightful leisure village where you can chill, dine, shop and enjoy all you want without even having to leave!

It brings you closer to nature where you wake up to the sunrise over pristine coastline, unwind to the tropical vibe of palm trees and white sand and soak in all the relaxation while still having a lot of options and fun things to do.

Now that is — luxury!

Located at the northwest tip of Panglao Island, Modala Leisure Villages has three parts.

First, let’s take a look at the resort part which is Modala Beach Resort.

Chic Entrance and Lobby

They say first impressions last and Modala knows this so well.

The moment you arrive at the resort, you will be welcomed with a stylish drop-off point for guests and elegant entrance leading you to the resort lobby, charmed with Filipino touches in design and decor.

Checking in is also a breeze, literally and figuratively. 👌

Standing at the reception area, you are greeted by warm smiles with a relaxing infinity view of the ocean on the side, giving you a breath of fresh air and making you feel that you are already in a tropical paradise.

Reception staff are very attentive to your needs, making the check in process fast and less hassle.

Relaxing Ocean View Room

Modala Beach Resort boasts of its modern Filipino-themed rooms styled with island-inspired interior design. The rooms are filled with neutral and earth tones, making you feel like you’re closer to nature when you stay here.

The resort offers 4 room categories:

– Tawhay Room
– Hayahay Room
– Lantaw Sunset
– Lantaw Ocean Room

The rooms are of pretty much the same size and interior. What differs is the kind of view and the bathtub, where others don’t have it.

We stayed at the Lantaw Ocean Room with a premium overlooking view of the ocean and it didn’t disappoint! Greeting us to the room are cute towel arts and welcome notes, courtesy of the very talented Sir Marlon. It was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture, we didn’t want to lay on it. 🥰

✨ Custom-furnished Furniture
✨ Stone-Inspired Minimalist Bathroom
✨ Island-Inspired Wall Accent and Local Artworks
✨ Tropical Overlooking View

Lantaw Ocean Room is complete with 49″ Smart TV, day bed, hot & cold shower, private bathroom with bathtub, tea coffee counter, safety deposit box and internet access both wireless and LAN.

Well-Designed Resort Pools

One of the most photographed parts of the resort is their infinity pool which is quite unique because instead of just giving guests an uninterrupted infinite view of the ocean, the infinity pool at Modala has palm trees in the view, giving an even more tropical vibe. It’s a 24-meter long infinity pool at approximately 4ft depth, with sunbeds immersed in ankle-deep water for added relaxation.

There’s also a stylish swim up bar in one corner of the pool where you can grab a snack or refresh with any drink of your choice. Another cool feature of their pool lounge is their sunken lounge surrounded by a Koi pond, giving you that warm and calm feeling.

On the other side is the shaded area where the kiddie pool is at. It’s very shallow and safe for kids, only around 2ft deep.  It also has a water splash or shower feature which kids would absolutely love.

What we like about their pool design is that it’s thoughtful enough to have a jacuzzi beside the kiddie pool where parents and grownups can chill while looking after their kids. Such a brilliant idea, perfect for family holidays!

1-Km Stretch of White Sand Beach

Bohol is one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines and one of the reasons why people visit the province is to experience its white sand beaches, especially in Panglao.

At Modala, there’s enough space for everyone with a kilometer stretch of white sand beach. They have sunbeds and cabanas where you can relax and soak in the summer sun.

Exciting Water Sports and Activities

What’s a 1-km beach shoreline without water activities, right? At Modala, you can enjoy a sunset cruise, ride a jetski, go snorkeling, paddle boarding and explore a mangrove plantation with a kayak.

You can also play volleyball along the beach, frisbee and other sports and recreational activities.

Soon, they will be offering horseback riding along the beach. How cool is that?

Local and International Cuisine at Mangaon Ta Restaurant

“Mangaon Ta” is a Visayan word which means “Let’s eat”. Mangaon Ta Restaurant is the main dining hall of the resort — an all-day dining restaurant with an indoor area, private room for intimate gatherings and an outdoor terrace for al fresco dining.

Did we mention how relaxing the view from the restaurant is? It’s the beach view right in front of you!

Romantic Date Nights at Modala

Planning on a romantic getaway with the one you love? Modala Resort has romantic fine dining options that you would never forget. You can have it by the beach or on top of the resort, at their Promenade Deck.

We had the chance to experience a romantic date night at the Promenade Deck and it was one of the best romantic dinner experiences that we had here in Bohol.

Gym and Sunset Bar

With a stunning overlooking view, the Promenade Deck can also be a place to enjoy a sunrise or sunset yoga. In fact, their resort gym is located there, giving you a beautiful view while working out.

Construction of the sunset bar is also in progress and soon, guests can enjoy the golden hour with cocktails and drinks from there.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols and Staff

Modala Beach Resort follows all safety protocols. There are clear signages for social distancing, alcohol stations and care kits for every room. All the staff are wearing face masks, too. Everyone at the resort is welcoming and attentive to our needs from the front desk to housekeeping and waiters.

Done touring you around the resort. Now, it’s time to show you the other side of the Leisure Village, the Moadto Strip Mall.

Moadto Strip Mall

“Moadto” is a Cebuano word which means “I will go”, implying the mall’s invitation for guests to go there and enjoy the first ever shopping and dining destination that’s built across the beach in Panglao, Bohol.

Located just along the longest shoreline in Panglao, Moadto Strip mall is a 2-level urban style retail experience where guests can dine, shop and relax without having to leave the Leisure Village.

Here are some of the restaurants at the mall:

Imperial Dragon

A Chinese restaurant serving authentic Chinese dishes by a Hong Kong-national Executive Chef. Check out their traditional dim sum, set meals and noodles.

Onami Japanese Restaurant

Onami is a Japanese word which means, “great waves”, thus, the restaurant’s aim is to provide great waves of Japanese flavors in the island of Panglao.

The Lechon Mann

Craving for lechon while you’re on vacation? No need to leave! The Lechon Mann brings the fiesta vibe in Moadto Strip Mall. For now, they are only offering takeaways and delivery right to your doorstep.

Lotus Storm

Lotus Storm is a stylish Asian Fusion restaurant. Lotus is a flower that’s native to Asia and flourishes in a wide range of climates from China to India. It is also one of the most significant flowers in Chinese culture. Storm, as we visualize it, is a whirlwind, which signifies the fusion or mix of everything. Combined together, Lotus Storm is a fusion of Asian cultures through food.

The restaurant is located at the beachfront portion of Modala Mall in Doljo, Panglao, Bohol. It covers an area of 500 square meters with 360 degree sea view.

Ocean Lounge & Bar

“Ocean Blue” is a combination of Ocean Suites, a popular boutique hotel in Tagbilaran city which has unobstructed ocean views and Blue Plate Catering, a catering service in Bohol known for their great food. 💖

Combine the two and you’ll get excellent Filipino cuisine while enjoying beautiful views. 💯👌🏻

They serve familiar Filipino tastes with exciting twists, your favorite snacks, sandwiches, pizzas and pasta, cake, as well as cocktails, shakes and juices. 😋

Our personal favorites are:

✨ Ink rice which is really good
✨ Butterfly Squid which is very tender
✨ All-time favorite crispy pata
✨ Cocktail choices by the beach

If you’re going to Moadto Strip Mall, check out Ocean Blue Lounge and Beach Bar which is located at the ground floor, by the beachfront and beside the fountain. ☺️

It’s cozy and a perfect place to chill at Moadto Strip Mall! 💯👍🏼

Locale Tea

Milk tea shops are getting popular now and it’s nice that they also have one in Moadto Strip Mall. Lo Cale Tea (pronounced as “locality”) also offers snack delights featuring local flavors with a twist.

Rojo Beach Bar

Rojo is the newest pop-up beach bar where you can hang out, swim, eat and simply enjoy the island life! It’s perfect for families since it has a playground by the beach where kids can play while the grownups enjoy their cocktails.

They also have kayaks, paddle boards, beach bikes, souvenir stations and beachfront seats.

Gilligan’s Restaurant

One of the recently opened restaurants in Moadto Strip Mall is Gilligan’s Restaurant which serves your all-time Filipino favorites at an affordable price.

Bohol Bee Farm

You’ve never been to Bohol if you haven’t dined at Bohol Bee Farm. While the main restaurant is in the Dauis area, you don’t have to go far to get a taste of their famous organic ice cream and other healthy options with their resto at Moadto Strip Mall.

Moon Cafe

Right beside Bohol Bee Farm is Moon Cafe which serves Mexican food.

Aside from restaurants, there are also bazaars and stalls selling local products, souvenirs and delicacies, even a pharmacy and 7/11 for your other essentials.

Tumoy Leisure Village

Done with Modala Beach Resort and Moadto Strip Mall…

Now, let’s talk about the 3rd part, which is the Tumoy Leisure Village

Tumoy is a Visayan word which means tip or end point. It’s the end point of Doljo Panglao, known for its stunning sunset spot. This is where the villas and other resort facilities will be built in the future. Can you already imagine how beautiful it will be?

Modala Leisure Villages is definitely an interesting resort concept, one of its kind and the first in the Philippines, which should be on your Bohol Bucket List.
