“When you’re young, you think your dad is Superman. Then you grow up, and you realize he’s just a regular guy who wears a cape.”
Sometimes they are just quiet and we often think they won’t appreciate any gesture because of how reserved they are with their emotions. But that should not stop us from planning out something special for them on Father’s Day.
One of the highlights for the month of June is celebrating Father’s Day and each year, like Mother’s Day, we want this day to be memorable.
Given the current situation that we have due to the worldwide pandemic, our movements were limited but that doesn’t mean we can do nothing for this once-a-year occasion. We listed down ways on how to make this year’s Father’s Day special:
Surprise Him with a Gift!
You know dads have their own wants yet they opt not to buy because they prioritize their family. But they are our dad, so why not surprise them with a gift this Father’s Day? Surprise him with his favorite watch, a polo shirt, sneakers that he wanted the most for a long time. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It can be a card or a personalized letter. After all, it’s the thought that counts.
Get to Know Him Better
During this time of quarantine, we spent most of the time with our family as we stayed at home together. On his special day, get to know him better by playing board games or any fun games with him. Through this, we get to know him better by how he interacts with his children and this is also the best time to get along with him, a special bond that is priceless.
Set up a Dinner Date with Him
Nothing beats a family dinner at home. On his special day, set up the dinner table with his favorite dishes. Let him feel that he is special. Serve him his favorite wine and let him do the talking. As dads are usually men with few words, he will enjoy the conversation, probably sharing his stories and a few jokes. Let this night be his night.
Bring Back the Memories!
Together with the whole family, watch old but fun-filled memories of you growing-up. Watch videos of you blowing a cake with your dad, or videos travelling with him, or a clip of you on stage performing. In this way, aside from reminding him of his life in years, it will also refresh his memory of how good he is in raising a son or a daughter, and how good he is as a father. You can also add a short message at the end of the video thanking him for taking care of you and your family.
Give Him some “Me Time”
You know dads are fans of certain sports like basketball, tennis, soccer and many more. As other people say, it’s the soap opera for men. So why not let your dad have control over your television? Give him a “me time” for him to feel that he is well appreciated after a long day at work. Let him sleep for a little longer, give him a head massage, and let the sound waves of your home filled with his classic songs!
Invest in His Future
It has always been important to get our family secure. Surprise your dad with a retirement plan, or invest in stocks. Dad usually provides for the family but this time, let him have the protection he deserves, and he will definitely appreciate this. Contact a financial advisor to find out more on their stock options.
Be Creative!
Spending Father’s Day with a twist is one for the books. Surprise him with a custom-made cake featuring him as top decor! Create mementos like a personalized mug with an imprinted photo of him, or a tee-shirt that says, you’re my number one dad! There is nothing more significant and memorable than being creative in surprising your dad this Father’s Day.
Join Him on His Hobbies!
As the saying goes, if you can’t beat them, join them! We know for a fact for some, we don’t really understand the science of why men are hooked into watching or basketball, running, or any sports. Why not take this time to join your dad to watch his favorite sports, ask him questions that make you curious regarding the stuff they are fond of in sports. Dad will surely appreciate this, and he will welcome you to his team plus he may offer his analysis and understanding of why he is up for this game. Aside from watching sports or games with him, you may join him on his hobbies like doing some carpentry work at home, taking good care of your lawn or garden, do some home exercise and more. We’ll never know that someday we will be the ones doing this in the future.
And lastly…
Tell Him Straight
We know for a fact how meek our father is, maybe because they are more rational than emotional, and they don’t want to dwell on their emotions when it comes to dealing with problems. Our dad is one of our great advisers in life, they offer straightforward answers, some are short but meaningful. This time, why not emulate that straightforward attitude, tell him straight that you appreciate what he is doing for you and your family, utter those words that will make him feel loved. You may express your love either though Father’s Day card or just simply score a chance to say it with him.
Happy Father’s Day to all biological fathers, stepdads, new dads, soon-to-be fathers and father figures out there!
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
